Her mother is working in the fields to get some money to look after the girls. Her 150 ($ 2) rupees wage as a casual labour doesn’t allow her to feed the girls and educate them. With the help of good hearted Australians, ICI is able to partner with LIGHT Home in Andhra Pradesh India and opened up lots of possibilities for her.
Bhagya Lakshmi’s dream would have been limited, however now, with a free quality education, she has a future full of opportunities. Bhagya Lakshmi is able to develop her knowledge of English, Computing in a quality learning environment. Lessons are fun and interactive and thanks to the nutritious meals which are provided.
More than 200 children like Lakshmi are able to get quality learning and proper meal because of the heart of compassion. Consider being part of changing a child’s destiny somewhere in the world. Dalits are the poorest of the poor and have no hope. Dalits have been living without human dignity and respect, and are poorest of the poor in Indian society. For the last 3,000 years since the inception of the Caste system, Dalits lives are largely unchanged.
India is the biggest democratic country in the world with more than 1.2 billion people. Many things have changed in India since its Independence 72 years ago but not Dalit’s lives who comprise nearly one-quarter of India, with population estimation of 300 million. Dalits also called the “Untouchables,” “Outcastes,” and most recently “Slumdogs,” are still in a hopeless situation with no hope for the future.
