The origins of Sri Lanka’s Muslim community can be traced back to the historic trading routes between South and Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Traders from the Middle East developed commercial interests in Southern India in the seventh century, which also spread to Sri Lanka. These Middle Eastern merchants married Tamil and Sinhalese women and settled in the east of the island around Batticaloa and Ampara.
In remote villages where schools are scarce, many children walk on average 6km a day to attend school. With a bike, these same children can ride to get to school and attend extra classes provided by the school. Also, instead of walking in the hot climate through isolated crossroads, it would be much safer for the children to travel by bikes and still have the energy to learn.
Currently there are a number of students who skip secondary school because they are usually further away. Most primary schools are located in villages, so the travel is less, and attendance is usually about 85%. The transition from primary to secondary school is a critical aspect of continuing education – and bikes are a way to address this issue.
We have been requested by the prinipal of the above school to provide at least 10 bikes to help girls and boys to address this issue.
Bikes make travelling to school easier, quicker hence encouraging children to go to school.
The total cost of of providing these ten bikes would be $1500.

Our desire is to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of time, money and other resources for good causes, such as;
– Empowerment of disadvantaged women
– Provision of childcare and mobility aids for disabled children
– Education for children including their development of English language
– Provision of water and sanitation to disadvantaged families
– Provision of sporting and cultural facilities for the community
